Red Hare Brewing Company is the world’s first brewer to launch evercan™, a new certified high-recycled content aluminum can.
Marietta, Georgia, April 9, 2014
Red Hare Brewing Company is the first brewer globally to launch their craft beer in an evercan™, the world’s first certified aluminum can made from more recycled material than regular cans.
In partnership with Novelis, the world leader in aluminum rolling and recycling, Red Hare Brewing Company is launching its new can at the 2014 Craft Brewers Conference in Denver today with the first packages at retail stores in the Southeast in May. The evercan™ aluminum can body sheet is made of a guaranteed minimum 90% recycled content. Recycling aluminum requires 95 percent less energy, and produces 95 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) than primary aluminum.
Red Hare founder Roger Davis said this is a natural step in our quest to be a leader in sustainability in the craft beer industry. “We were the first micro-brewery in Georgia to package our craft beer in cans two years ago because aluminum cans have a much lower carbon foot print than glass bottles. With the new evercan™ we are getting closer to full-loop recycling, which is the right thing to do for our planet. We are further reducing our environmental footprint while providing our loyal Red Hare fans with the portability, freshness and taste they love”.
Canned craft beer is now one of the fastest growing beverage segments with 400 craft brewers in the United States canning more than 1,300 different beers.
Red Hare’s three mainstay store brands Long Day Lager, Gangway IPA and Watership Brown will all fully convert to the evercan™ package over the next two months and will be available in the states of Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.
